Alternate Codes are additional codes that can be assigned to a Stock Item.
They are generally used to record items that contain more than one scan code.
Alternate Codes can be entered in the POS screen to sell the products they are linked to and they will also work with Portable Data Entry Terminals (PDE’s).
To add an Alternate Code, select an item in the Stock Item screen and press the Alternate Codes button located in the left menu.
To use Alternate Codes in the POS screen, you can either enter the Alternate Code manually or by scanning the item.
There is no limit to the number of alternate codes you can store against an item, however it is not recommended to store excessive numbers of Alternate Codes against a Stock Item.
If you have Alternate Codes for Stock Items, when you enter an Alternate Code into the Stock Items Grid > Scan Code Header filter, any Stock Items that match the entered Alternate Code will be displayed.
Go to File > Stock Control > Stock Items > Scan Code field.
Any Stock Items that match the entered Alternate Code will be displayed.
The Set as Default button will set the currently selected Alternate Code as the Default Code (i.e. the selected Alternate Code will be moved from the Alternate Code list and into the Stock Item's Scan Code field).
If the Stock Item already contains a Scan Code, the Stock Item Scan Code will be moved into the Alternate Code list, and the Alternate Code that has just been set as the Default will be moved into the Scan Code (the codes will be swapped).
If the Stock Item does not have a Scan Code but contains an Alternate Code, pressing the 'Set as Default' button will move the Alternate Code from the Alternate Code list into the Scan Code field.
If there are no Alternate Codes in the list, the 'Set as Default' button will be greyed out and unavailable.
Entering an Alternate Code into the Search field will search the entered Alternate Code against the currently displayed Stock Item.
The list of Alternate Codes will be filtered as the code is entered and any matches will be displayed.
Wildcard (*) searching is also supported.
E.g. to search for an Alternate Code that contains 79 anywhere in the code, enter *79.
The list of Alternate Codes will be filtered to show matching results.
